Background
IBRAD, established in 1985 as a non-profit, ISO 9001:2000 certified professional Institute to create a world of human understanding for sustainable development has carved a niche for itself in the field of sustainable development. As a professional institute, IBRAD has proven its credibility among the different stakeholders, who are involved in the field of sustainable development and natural resource management in particular. IBRAD has set a high and uncompromising standard for itself receiving due recognition and appreciation from every quarter, which is reflected by the fact that it got ISO 9001:2000 certification and the organizations like the Ford Foundation and different state and central Government departments value our researches, activities and training for policy formulation and its implementation. IBRAD has received US $ 8,00,000 as an Endowment Fund from the Ford Foundation with certification that IBRAD’s work has helped build capacity in local communities, other NGOs and Forest bureaucracy.
IBRAD, currently with nearly 40 professionals, has been engaged in the field of conducting training, action research and developing demonstrable models in six regional centres across the country on issues related to sustainable development, natural resource management for the government officials, NGO functionaries and community members at the national and international level since 1991. It has also got academic collaborations with different universities, institutes at the national and international level. The body of knowledge and concepts developed by IBRAD has been published in the journals, books and applied extensively by many development practitioners and government departments. It has now got three acres of land from the government of West Bengal to run training, research and academic courses in it’s own building.
