Post Graduate Diploma in
Rural Management and Sustainable Development

Course Objective:

The recent discourse on sustainable development has shifted the object of analysis from man to nature. Over the years, ecosystem analysts have discovered that it is the degrading activities of the poor, their irrationality, backward practices, and lack of environmental consciousness that has led to the present ecological crisis. Thus the discourse on sustainable development, which besides taking nature as an object of analysis builds itself upon the discourse of poverty, in order to impose the responsibility of environmental degradation on the poor. This calls for an urgent action to be taken at the grass root level. It requires the present youth to come forward and understand the problem.

Given that one third of the country’s population is engaged in agricultural sector and the fact that the agriculture sector in particular and the rural sector in general provides both the forward and backward linkages in economic development and growth via the support system it provide to the manufacturing sector and the urban areas, action oriented research must be initiated in the rural areas.

With this vision IBRAD is commencing with its post graduate diploma programme in rural management sustainable development with special focus on areas of natural resource management, alternative livelihood opportunities for the rural poor, forest conservation, human development pertaining to health , education.
