About IBRAD and IBRAD School of Management and Sustainable Development
IBRAD (Indian Institute of Bio-social Research and Development) is a non-profit, ISO 9001:2000 certified professional Institute,
established in 1985 with the realization that no single discipline of knowledge can address the problem of sustainable human development. It is required to understand the problem through systematic and holistic approaches rather than trying to address them in an isolated manner. This needs a cohesive team of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary professionals working in a coherent manner valuing each others strength and appreciating the weakness of their own.
Thus IBRAD came into being in response to growing need for :
- Understanding the concept of biological, social and other natural sciences, through systematic approach and unifying these concepts for developing a coherent body of knowledge.
- Thus applying the body of knowledge and skills through integrated training and educational programmes to address the problem of severe degradation of natural resources and social environment, upon which our survival depend.
As a professional institute for action research in the field of sustainable development and natural resource management in particular, IBRAD has carved out an identity for itself and has established its credibility among the stakeholders.

IBRAD has been conducting action research and training on Human Development, Sustainable Development and Joint Forest Management for IPS Officers and other civil servants like WBCS officers since 1991. The Institute has conducted international training programs on 'Systematic Approach to Sustainable Joint Forest Management' and similar courses in the Universities of Wales (UK), Manchester (UK), Helsinki (Finland), Jogjakarta (Indonesia) and China. It has been conducting a unique Distance Learning Course on Natural Resource Management with interactive centres in different states of India from 2003 and also conducted a three months Certificate Course on NRM to develop professionals, jointly with the Andhra Pradesh Forest Academy.

The recent global thrust on Sustainable Development demands a new breed of professionals who understand issues related to renewability and sustainability of natural resources of the earth and are committed to achieve development objectives without compromising the need of the future generation.
Based on 20 years research, training experience of IBRAD and interaction with different organizations across the country and at international level, it has established IBRAD School of Management and Sustainable Development in a holistic manner. It aims to train professionals with the synthesis of knowledge based on the concepts of biological, social, technical and managerial sciences through a systematic integrated approach and develop essential analytical, managerial and leadership skills for applying the concepts in the field of problems of degradation of natural, social and organizational environments.
The school is committed to blend the concept and techniques of natural resource management and sustainable development into the traditional courses of business management.
The course offered :
2 years full time MBA course approved by All India Council for Technical Education ( AICTE) & affiliated to West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT), Salt Lake, Kolkata.

IBRAD's Track Record in Research, Academic Programs, and Development
IBRAD, established in the year 1985, the only ISO 9001:2000 certified organisation in the country conducting action research and training on human development and sustainable development, Joint Forest Management (JFM) for senior level IPS officers since 1991.

It has conducted number of international training on 'Systemic Approach to Participatory Forest Management' with participants from Indonesia, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Nepal and other Countries.
The faculty of IBRAD have also have been invited in foreign universities such as University of Wales, Manchester, Helsinki, Gaja Madha university Indonesia and China to conduct similar courses, designed by IBRAD.
Organising training for the officials and practitioners of different countries like Indonesia, Nepal, Thailand, China on issues related to Participatory natural Resource Management/Forest Management.
IBRAD has been conducting action research on issues related to human development supported by UNDP, Man and Nature: Trust, Relationship and Action for natural resource conservation in 10 states of India as national coordinator on behalf of Ministry of Environment and Forests supported by The Ford Foundation, action research on fresh water conservation funded by Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India.
IBRAD has been awarded prestigious assignments from different state governments and Government of India related to subjects like assessment of NRM courses and developing model curriculum for post graduate courses on NRM by ministry of HRD, evaluation of various government projects and programs related to NRM/JFM by Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India at the national level.
Number of PhD thesis has been prepared based on IBRAD's concept and project areas. IBRAD faculty has supervised PHD students of national and international universities and reviewed and examined PHD thesis.
Number of books, research papers and consultancy reports are published in different journals based on research works of IBRAD.
IBRAD is assigned different development projects and action research by the international funding agencies like The Ford Foundation, DFID, Arcadis Eurocunsult, SIDA, JBIC and World Bank through state governments.
It has joint projects with corporate houses like Price Waterhouse Coopers.
I BRAD has facilitated the process of Management of Change and Participatory Organisation Development for different organizations like Himachal Pradesh Forest department, Consumer Affairs Department, Government of West Bengal, Water Resources Development Department, Government of West Bengal.
Based on the action research findings of IBRAD the Government orders related to Participatory Irrigation Management, Government of West Bengal is modified.
IBRAD is facilitating the process of design and implementation of Karnataka Sustainable Forest Management and Biodiversity Assessment Project sponsored by JBIC.
IBRAD has been appointed the Training Advisor, by the Andhra Pradesh Forest Department under their World Bank funded Andhra Pradesh Community Forest Management Project.
The institute has experience in running a Distance Learning Course on Natural Resource Management with interactive centres spreaded over different parts of the country.
The institute is assigned to conduct training programs for various national level institutes like Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy for IFS probationers, LBSNA for IAS probationers, Andhra Pradesh Forest Academy, Administrative Training Institute, State Forest Service College, Coimbatore, Tata institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management, Kolkata, Administrative Training Institute, Kolkata etc to name a few.
